Here are just a few of the diseases in dogs, cats and horses that can be treated with homeopathic remedies.

Homeopathy can be used with acute as well as chronic problems.  Typically acute issues require 1-2 homeopathic remedies, whereas chronic diseases may necessitate re-dosing or changing the homeopathic remedy every 3-6 weeks for a 6 month to 2 year period.

Homeopathy has been practiced for over 200 years.  It is the science of “like cures like”.  For instance, if an animal has a symptom of a sprain or strain, a minute dose of Rhus toxicodendron (Rhus-t) can be given as medicine.  If Rhus-t is given in high quantities to a healthy animal, one of the side effects that would be seen is limping due to joint pain as if he had sprained or strained a joint.  Conversely, the minute dose causes the body to recognize a problem that needs to be healed and begins the healing process.  The homeopathic remedy used in a case is determined by evaluating the patient as a whole.  I use mental/emotional symptoms as well as physical ones to decide on a homeopathic remedy.

I studied homeopathy with Richard Pitcairn, DVM, taking his 133 hour beginning course in 1997-1998 and his 67 hour advanced course in 1999.  You can visit his site at www.drpitcairn.com
